Swagger 2016

Swagger is a documentary with a style yet to be put into a box; which reflects the nature and complex mosaic of expression of the eleven protagonists. There is an all-present hyper awareness of the social constructs, the real, invented and dreamed of. These elements are strongly ingrained in the personalities interviewed;

There are dialogues of their dreams, fears and their future self, which gives an honest portrait of a marginalised minority, on the outskirts of Paris. Influenced by the projected identity in which France paints the other’, but overwhelmed by humour, fictional scenarios of fame and computer generated invasions.

There is an awareness of the differences between their social role and their own self-concept. The first seems to be well defined by chance, through the environment, architecture, project buildings and appropriation of someone else’s stereotyped identity. Whereas their own self-concept is generated by a strong desire to make a proud cultural impression, but it remains humourlessly aware of their effortless reputation, as swaggers. These elements translate into catastrophic, famous and well choreographed possibilities of future self. The scenes and filming style release a feeling of continuously changing perspectives that are interconnected by highly charged energy, sarcasm and creativity. Which are shared and emanate within their collective cultural community, like the fluorescent lights of fireflies in the night time.

Enjoy.

Thank you.

‘Watch me’  is an on-going collection of contemporary writing on selected films, placed between a factual movie review and a synopsis.
The writings focus on PHILOSOPHICAL, psychological and sociological theories with incomprehensible metaphors but fresh like lemons.
