Darbareye Elly – About Elly 2009

The movie has the audacity of a freshly remembered dream, where the main event emerges suddenly, as if triggered by a strong sense of smell. The camera is directed to show the story with the insistence and perseverance of a wild life documentary, in portraying the series of events as they come and when they come. Which unveil in such a way to create a feeling of uneasiness, similar to the tension of performing simple actions like running or throwing punches while dreaming.
The feeling is in part projected from the protagonists internal group dynamics or their acquired traditional impositions from society.
On a sociological level, the movie stands as an experimental example between the work of Kurt Lewin, who has coined the term group dynamics in relation to changing situations; and more specific elements researched under the interpersonal underworld’ theories of William Schutz. There is in particular a correlation to the feelings of inclusion, control and affection and how the protagonists react while the situation changes. As more assumptions are made the whole dynamic of the group is highly influenced by preexisting feelings of altruism alternated to ostracism to eventually being replaced by the cultural idea of identifying the deceiver. Like bees that can accept a new queen or act as a collective hive and kill her in 30 seconds.
Enjoy.
