When Freud was writing about the psychology of children, his work was highly criticised. There is one thing to be considered, he was talking from a specific age prospective, a child’s prospective, and so does My First Highway. Seemingly there is one dominating perspective which generates an archetype pattern of behaviour. It alternates the absence of strong emotions to a euphoric wilderness again and again and again. Like wild horses running on stormy waves until they realise… they cannot float nor fly and the waves transform their heartbeat into a flat line. The overall feeling of uneasiness and exaggerated euphoria is overpowered by the main character’s instinctive aptitude to orchestrate the events, this aptitude has a severe backlash. The same energy that initiates and fuels the events is forcefully re-represented. It explores impulsive behaviours which could be placed in a contemporary debate and protests of historic and ongoing acts upon the complex and contradictory ideas that society has, of male and female sexuality. Where sexuality becomes depended and influences the other. We are in a emotional space where The Libido is elevated to a pure personification and there is no allegedly accountable person behind it.
Thank you.
‘Watch me’ is an on-going collection of contemporary writing on selected films, placed between a factual movie review and a synopsis.
The writings focus on philosophical, psychological and sociological theories with incomprehensible metaphors but fresh like lemons.
