The result of the project was made into a book that showcases a series of gas stations photographs from the historic Via Emilia (via Aemilia) made by Romans. A straight road of 260km from Piacenza to Rimini where it connects to Rome through Via Flaminia.
This is the most crowded route in the north of Italy, and it’s full of gas stations and prostitutes. I have traveled for 90km from Bologna to Cesena, taking photographs of the gas stations mainly at night.
I have always been captivated by gas stations and their familiar structures, all the same and all different as temples of modern societies, from the essential ones to the modern ones with different ‘arcades’ for various types of fuel.
I have grown to have a particular type of fascination for spaces that are considered to be transitory, and how they (places as personifications) create unconscious and behavioural traits effortlessly.
What connects the transitory space of a gas station to an online dating platform (where accounts have the ideal status of being temporary) is the idea that where there is an open space, there is an idyllic scenario for a fantasy and freedom.
