Three colours WHITE 1994

The recurrent themes of the trilogy is one strong idea that can be traced back to causal determinism philosophies and causa sui’ or self caused determined fates. Causal determinism can be intended as Predeterminism, the idea that all events are determined in advance.[9][10] (…) implying that there is an unbroken chain of prior occurrences stretching back to the origin of the universe. Whereas causa sui’ happens within itself. Blanc, is filmed in a way to set a down to earth mood of a seemingly common young couple who is going throw extraordinary situations to bless their love with sentiments of extreme spectacles of veneration & hate. Throughout the movie the causal determinism and causa sui’ are interchanging and mingling. The movie shows a series of paradigm situations where the characters are placed in the right place at the wrong time and misplaced in the wrong place at the right time. Where the what if’ element that needs to happen happens, which interferes with the relation between choice and chance, present and future. A further unifying concept present throughout the trilogy is connected to different perspectives of morality. Be it the result of a moral imagination of the characters set to fit in opposition to the spectator. Or the characters being physically present within the time frame and/or the space time when the events are unavailing throughout the trilogy, placed in morally symbolic situations.

‘Watch me’ is an on-going collection of contemporary writing on selected films, placed between a factual movie review and a synopsis.
The writings focus on philosophical, psychological and sociological theories with incomprehensible metaphors but fresh like lemons.
